Unity in Diversity

India is a secular,democratic union of states with many religions,languages and cultures.Everyone of us knows this but are we doing enough to preserve this diversity?

To state the facts,

There is no single National language in India.People within and outside India have believed that Hindi is India's National language,thanks to the  media and educational system which has shown it that way.

There are 22 National languages in India as defined in the constitution and all the languages are treated equally.

Now,how does this misconception "Hindi is our National language" affect us?

              Apart from the government imposing Hindi across the country by various means(even allocating Rs.360 million every year to spread its use),now general public(Indians) has come to equate Indian nationality with the knowledge of Hindi.A person who does not know Hindi or who does not want Hindi to replace his mother language is considered less Indian and anti National.

             People moving across states expect everyone to deal with them in Hindi and never make an attempt to learn the local language even if they decide to settle down in that place.Just imagine this happening for a generation  and we are left with only Hindi as the language in India(one of the languages AKa-Bo spoken in Andaman Islands is already extinct as of 2010)

             If there is a proposal asking people to learn the local language of a state - why is there opposition to this?

            Should the locals learn a new language to deal with the migrants or is it the other way?

Will the Britons learn Gujarati because many Gujaratis have moved there? And Canadians learn Punjabi because there are many Punjabis?

The biggest arguement the people  who support One Nation,one Language(hindi) theory make is that it makes it easy as a country if there is one single language.

Let me give you an analogy to this.

There are many religions being followed in India - Hinduism,Jainism,Sikhism,Christianity and Islam.

Just because Hindus are more in number, Should the government propogate that everyone else convert to Hindusim?

So that there would be no problems between people of different religions? Sounds dumb correct?

Then why should one language be given a special consideration than others?

End of the day,we should remember that India is a union of states speaking different languages and following different cultures.

Let us preserve this diversity which has a history of 1000's of years.

Opposition to Hindi Imposition is not to be taken as a hatred toward Hindi as a language or the Hindi speaking people.

It is more a concern for the regional languages and Kannada for me.

We were,and will be united as a country with all our diversity.

we do not need one language,one religion to be united.

What if ?

The central govt spends 30+ crores every year to spread the usage of Hindi across India.

And now karnataka's 'kannada mattu samskruti ilaakhe' recently sponsored a sanskrit book fair in Bengaluru apart from announcing to establish a sanskrit university in Karnataka.

What these governments,atleast the Karnataka government fails to see is the need to save and promote the languages indigenious to Karnataka like Kannada,Tulu,kodava etc.
Instead money and resources are spent on introducing languages which do not have any connection with the people except in textbooks.

Do we have a university for studying the Tulu and Kodava languages?
Can the people of Mangalore and Kodagu learn these languages in school?
What steps have been taken to popularise and spread these languages?(atleast we have not seen any)

Simply put,has the govt done its part to save own languages before help spreading the other languages.

What if Hindi is widely spoken - It need not be imposed on the entire nation.
What if Sanskrit was supposedly spoken by gods - First concentrate on languages being spoken now.

Sanskrit is not the mother of all languages of India.
Sanskrit is an aryan language.

PS: I am against piracy in any form and have no affiliation to Kannadaaudio.com in any form.

The site kannadaaudio.com which hosted different forms of kannada songs like folk,devotional and movie songs has removed the collection of movie songs from its database.Thanks to the movie SUPER by Upendra.

SUPER movie songs were also available in the site as any other new movie and the producers felt this was another form of piracy and shut down the site for a few days.
The site was back online but without any movie songs altogether.

Kannadaaudio.com was just a online streaming of songs and not a free download site.
Consider the free publicity and hype this website was providing for all the newly releasing movies.

How will the people get information about new movie songs being released if these kind of sites are shutdown?
How will the producers plan to reach the overseas kannadigas?

The movie industry needs to get serious in marketing and get some lessons to use the Internet to their advantage.

೪. ಕನ್ನಡ ಅಡುಗೆ ಮನೆಗೆ ಸೀಮಿತವಾಗದೇ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಕ್ಕೂ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ನುಡಿಯಾಗುತ್ತೆ.

ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಸರಕಾರವೇ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು..ನಾವು ಕೂತು ನೋಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎನ್ನುವ ಮನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಬದಿಗೊತ್ತಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಲಾದದ್ದನ್ನು ನಾವು ಮಾಡೋಣ.ಏನಂತೀರ?

2010 is no different than the 1960's

Below is an excerpt from Capt.Gopinath's autobiography - Simply Fly.

That was around 1960.Gopinath had a mentor who could get him to write the NDA exams in Kannada.Had he not joined Sainik School and then NDA,Deccan Airlines would not have happened.

Fast forward 50 yrs to 2010.There are still many Central government institutions and organisations conducting exams and administration only in Hindi and English language.
Even today UGC or Aadhaar(UID Project) dont have any provision for Kannada language.Read the post from Enguru Coffee Ayta below.

Is this the central government's failure to provide services equally to every Indian in his own language?
Or is it the failure of We,the Kannadigas to get this basic right to our brothers and sisters in villages who know only Kannada.
How can we expect every individual in India to know English or Hindi to get these basic amenities?
Which is easier - providing the forms and exams in all languages or forcing the entire nation to learn one language?
Frankly,2010 is no different than 1960's.

PS: This also applies to all other regional languages of India.

ಕಳೆದ ಬಾರಿ ನಾನು ಡ್ರ್ಯಾಗನ್ ಏರ್ವೇಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ ಹಾಂಗ್ ಕಾಂಗ್ ಗೆ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಡ್ರ್ಯಾಗನ್ ಏರ್ವೇಸ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗಳೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಮನರಂಜನೆಗಾಗಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆಗಳಿದ್ದರೆ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬಲ್ಲ ಜನರಿಗೆ ವಿಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಓಡಾಡುವುದು ಸಲೀಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರಯಾಣದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ಇದ್ದರೆ, ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾಷೆಯ, ತಮಗಿಷ್ಟವಾದ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಕಾಲ ಕಳೆಯಬಹುದು.
ಸರಿ, ಡ್ರ್ಯಾಗನ್ ಏರ್ವೇಸ್ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಈ ವಿಷಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಹೇಳೋಣ ಅಂತ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದು ಮಿಂಚೆ ಬರೆದದ್ದಾಯ್ತು.
"ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಂದ ಓಡಾಡುವ ನಿಮ್ಮ ವಿಮಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇವೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡುವುದರಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗ ಗ್ರಾಹಕರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಉಪಯೋಗವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ವಿಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರಗಳು, ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನೂ ನೀಡಿ" ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಬರೆದ ಮಿಂಚೆಗೆ ಅವರಿಂದ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಬಂತು..
ಮನವಿಯನ್ನು ಡ್ರ್ಯಾಗನ್ ಏರ್ವೇಸ್‍ನವರು ಗಂಭೀರವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿ ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವೇ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತರುವುದಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಉತ್ತರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಇದೊಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆ.
ಗ್ರಾಹಕರ ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗೆ, ಒತ್ತಾಯಕ್ಕೆ ಇರುವ ಶಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಇದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಗೂಗಲ್ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವ ಚರ್ಚೆ ಏನ್ ಗುರು ಹಾಗು ಸಂಪದ ದಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವುದು ನಿಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರಬಹುದು. ಸಂಪದ ಲೇಖನದಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುಗರಾಗಿ ನಾವು ಯಾವ ರೀತಿ ಇದನ್ನು ಸರಿಪಡಿಸಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮೂಡಿಬಂದಿದೆ.
ಇಂದು ನಾವು ಪ್ರಿಯಾಂಕ್ ರವರು ಸೂಚಿಸಿರುವ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಯ ಮೂಲ ಕಾರಣಗಳು ಯಾವುವು ಎಂದು ಯೋಚಿಸಬೇಕಾಗಿದೆ .
1. ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಹಾಗು ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಾಪ್ತಾಹಿಕಗಳನ್ನು ತರಿಸುವುದು ಅಥವಾ ಓದುವುದು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆಗಿರಬಹುದೇ? ಆದ ಕಾರಣ ನಾವು ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲೂ ಕೂಡ ಕನ್ನಡದ ಲೇಖನ,ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಓದುವುದು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೀವ ?
ನಮಗೆ ಅಚ್ಚುಮೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಹವ್ಯಾಸಗಳು ಅಥವಾ ಆಟಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಬೇಕಾದಾಗ ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯದಂತ ತಾಣಗಳನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ .ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಕನ್ನಡ ದಿನಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಓದುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸವಿದ್ದು ಅದು ಸಿಗದಿದ್ದಾಗ ನಾವು ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲೂ ಕೂಡ ಕನ್ನಡ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹುಡುಕಬೇಕು.
2. ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಓದುವಂತ ಬಹುಪಾಲು ಜನರಿಗೆ ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುವುದು ತಿಳಿದಿಲ್ಲವೇ? ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಅವರು ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ತಾಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲವೇ ?
3. ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲವನ್ನು ದಿನನಿತ್ಯ ಬಳಸುವಂತ ಐ ಟಿ ಮಂದಿ ಹಾಗು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ತಾಣಗಳನ್ನು ವೀಕ್ಷಿಸುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಇದ್ದ ಹಾಗೆ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದೆ.
ಈ ಗುಂಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ನಾವುಗಳು ಇಂದು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಾಳಜಿವಹಿಸಿ ಪ್ರಿಯಾಂಕ್ ರವರು ಹೇಳಿರುವ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಹಾಗು ಅದನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ ಇತರ ಗೆಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಬೇಕು.
4. ನಾವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನೇ ಓದಿಕೊಂಡು ದೊಡ್ದವರಗಿದ್ದೇವೆ.ಇಂದು ಕೆಲಸ ಅಥವಾ ಬೇರೆ ಬೇರೆ ಕಾರಣಗಳಿಂದ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಹಾಗು ಇತರೆ ಭಾಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲಿತ ನಂತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಓದುವುದನ್ನು ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದೀವ ? ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸುದ್ದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀವ ?

ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪಾದಕರು ಹಾಗು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯವರ ಪಾತ್ರವೇನು?
ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಓದುವವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಜಾಸ್ತಿ ಆದಾಗ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆ ಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಒಂದು ತಪ್ಪು ಕಲ್ಪನೆ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಮನೆ ಮಾಡಿದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಇದರಿಂದ ಹಾನಿಯಾಗುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಉಪಯೋಗವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೂಗಲ್ ಇಂದು ಜಾಹಿರಾತಿನ ಆದಾಯದಿಂದ ದೈತ್ಯಾಕಾರವಾದ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದಿದೆ.
ಇಂದಿನ ದಿನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳು ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಇರುವಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಿದೆ ಹಾಗು ಜಾಹಿರಾತಿನ ಆದಾಯವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.
ಗೂಗಲ್ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದರೆ ಗೂಗಲ್ ಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾರುಕಟ್ಟೆ ಇದೆಯೋ ಅಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಗಳು ಪ್ರವೇಶ ಪಡೆಯಬಹುದು.

ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಇಂದು ಪತ್ರಿಕೆಯವರು ಹೊಸ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನ ಗಳಾದ unicode ಹಾಗು ಇನ್ನಿತರವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಸೈಟ್ ಗಳನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಭಾಗಗಳ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಸಿಗುವ ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು.

ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಏರ್ ವೇಸ್ ವಿಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಆದ ಅನುಭವ

ಮೊನ್ನೆ ನನಗೆ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಏರ್ವೇಸ್ ವಿಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯಾಣ ಮಾಡುವ ಅವಕಾಶ ದೊರಕಿತ್ತು.
ನಮ್ಮ ಬಳಗದ ಮಿಂಚೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದ್ದಂತೆ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಬಂದು/ಹೋಗುವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷ್ ಏರ್ವೇಸ್ ವಿಮಾನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ ಹೊರಡಿಸುವುದು ತಿಳಿದಿತ್ತು.

ಲಂಡನ್ ನಿಂದ ಹೊರಡುವಾಗ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ ಹೊರಡಿಸಿದರು..
ಬೇರೆ ದೇಶದ ನೆಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರ ಮುಂದೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ ಕೇಳುವುದು ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಖುಷಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು.
ನಂತರ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಗಗನಸಖಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾತನಾಡಿಸಿ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಹೇಳಿ ಬಂದೆ.
ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಬರುವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲೇ ಆ ಕೆಲಸ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ್ದು ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಸಂತೋಷ ಆಯಿತು..
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಅಂಗಡಿಗಳ ಸಹಾಯಕರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ .
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಮಾನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರಿಗೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗ ಕೊಡಿಸಲು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ರಕ್ಷಣಾ ವೇದಿಕೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಹೋರಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಧನ್ಯವಾದ ಹೇಳಿ ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೊರಟೆ.
